Leptomeningeal malignant melanoma - A rare case report

Abstract

Leptomeningeal malignant melanoma is a rare disease associated with poor prognosis in which tumor spreads to meninges surrounding brain and spinal cord. Here, we discuss a case of a 47 year male who presented with complain of forgetfulness, difficulty in walking, urinary incontinence, drowsiness, unable to speak, seizure. A CT brain showed hyperdense area and significant perilesional oedema in right temporo-parietal region. It causes mass effect. Subdural haemorrhage noted in right parietal region with periventricular hypo density. For that patient operated for right side VP shunt and right fronto-temporoparietal craniotomy with excision of right temporal space occupying lesion. HPE showed tumour to be composed of neoplastic cells arranged in sheets nest and peritheliomatous pattern. Cells are epithelioid to spindly in nature. Mitosis are ( >20/10 HPF ). Cytoplasm of neoplastic cells showed melanin pigment.
