Now a days, a big question arises as ‘Can AI (artificial intelligence) replaces pathologist in future?’. The answer for this question is very interesting and as per the pathologist perspective –the answer is NO. AI in pathology is boom and extra edge advantage to the pathology practice and worked as adjuvant to the pathologist and never replaces the pathologist in the future. 1
The great advantage of AI and machine learning is to reduce interobserver errors, and accurate counting of atypical mitotic figures for grading the tumors. Prognostication of the tumors is extra benefit of AI and machine learning. Accuracy of diagnosis, prognosis of tumors are definitely increased by AI varied databases. Hence, AI can speed up the process of diagnosis with accuracy free from errors or bias, novel method for researchers for better research. Pathologist should update with future trends in new era to cope up with changes to survive like Darwin’s theory of evolution. 1
Regarding many recent modifications in our ‘blue book’ of WHO classifications of tumors –terminologies are modified; changed and diagnostic criteria are revised. Many confusing terms are omitted and replaced by better words for more clarity and precision. Few examples of these are - Updates from the new who classification and Bethesda system by Andrey Bychkov, Chan Kwon Jung in 2024, WHO 5th edition updates for urinary tract, prostate, testis, and penis by Bonnie Choy, Maria Tretiakova, Debra L. Zynger in 2023 and many more in 2023 regarding recent updates on dermatopatholgy, hematopathology, bone and soft tissue pathology etc.2, 3
Take home message is ‘Change is inevitable part of life, hence accept it, digest it and practice it’.
Thanks to all researchers, editors, authors for constant support in our IP ACHR journal so that we will be excel better in future.
